As Sabuj Sangha’s motto is to holistic development of our kids, so it obviously needs an updated library to access, but having no so called big library, the Organisation thought of a little but attractive and unique library set up. We have an open library both in concept and reality named “Wall O’ Book.” This means that there is free and open access to all books and resources at all times of day throughout the year. The library was set up by pupils of the Upper Primary School with the help of the art and craft teacher. Some waste materials have been used to make it like wasted egg tray, newspaper, adhesive like Fevicol and different colours. Keeping the idea in mind that the library is for the little kids, it has been decorated by splendid paintings on it like Miki Mouse, Chota Bhim, picture of different birds and animals, different other cartoon characters etc. Mutual trust and shared responsibility provide the base from which this library functions. The rules and regulations of library interaction evolve out of a sense of co- operation, consideration and care as a whole.
There is a librarian to look after and monitor the library and selected by the students in the democratic way in every three months. There are around 100 books of three languages i.e. English, Bengali and Hindi on short stories, poems, one act play, quiz, cartoons for infants, maps of West Bengal, India and the world for spatial knowledge. After reading the book students are to given their feedback by writing down their opinion on a paper and leave the paper in the comments box. Students are directed and motivated to take books from open library and learn themselves. The challenge for the librarian is not one of policing and monitoring but to perceive and hold the library and its users so that it functions vibrantly. This can only be done when the community of users feels a sense of ownership and accountability. The collection of this library reflects the commitment to quality and excellence. The staff and students are actively involved in the books selection process. The future aim is that the students will be taken to book fairs and exhibitions to select and buy books for the library.
