The villages of Sundarban are situated in very remote areas. There is no good school in most of the areas. Most of the inhabitants are illiterate and less-conscious about the education. Therefore, the students face the problem that a first generation learner faces. Most of the times, the children are engaged into household chores or income generation activities. Moreover, lack of nutrition remains as a stark problem. In addition, the teaching quality of the existing schools is not up to the mark and teachers are engaged in different types of work other than studies. As a result, they do not have much time in hand to teach. The students are neglected since not getting quality education.
Maheswar studies in class V in our Model School i.e. Kisalay Sishu Siksha Niketan (KSSN). His Parents are Prabir who is a day labour in the village and Debi who is a housewife. He lives in Purba Surendranagar in Pathar Pratima block in South 24 Parganas District, West Bengal, India.
Maheswar is a bright student in our model school. Previously he was a child labour, worked in a tea stall. Sabuj Sangha rescue team found him in the tea stall and convinced his parents to take him in our Residential School to prevent child labour. There he had his early education and proved to be exceptional from others. Two years later Maheswar was admitted to KSSN in class II and the situation had improved to a great extent as the child got special attention and care from the teachers. He does his homework properly and regularly. He does take care to other residential children. Due to regular monthly health check -up, he is physically fit and strong. He is expected to have a greater future than his past.
