10 years old Diya* from the close vicinity studies in Class V of ‘Kishalay Sishu Siksha Niketan’ (KSSN) -the Model School at Nandakumarpur village in deep Sunderbans run by ‘Sabuj Sangha’. She can easily be spotted among the crowd of other students for her bright smiling face and a pleasant personality.
“Four years back Diya was not the same person as she is today. She was a shy, timid girl and always hiding from any stranger she has to face.” says a Teacher of our Model School. The progress in the growth of Diya’s personality is thus remarkable.
Diya’s father Mr. Satarup works in a manufacturing factory of hosiery products. Her mother Mrs. Mrinmayee is a homemaker. On an average Satarup hardly earns INR 4000.00 per month. Thus, with a very meager amount they sustain their lives with hardships and sacrifices. But the steep financial condition never came on way of Diya’s education as both of her parents aspire and are determined to see her brighter future. Thus, Diya got admitted to the school in the preparatory Standard Sishu Shreni I (SS I) in 2012.
‘Kishalay Sishu Siksha Niketan’ (KSSN) - the model school in remotely located Nandakumarpur boosted the morale of Diya’s parents with many others to see and aspire of a brighter future for their children. As seen by them “…the school teaches mentors and takes care on overall development of a child- It has brought a ray of hope in our struggling life...” .
Both of the parents remained communicative and always in touch with the teachers of the school and follow all guidance and suggestions given for development of Diya.
Since the very beginning Diya has been a disciplined, obedient and attentive student. She is good at languages – both in English & Bengali. Her good hand writing depicts determined and pleasant state of her mind. Along with her studies she loves to spend her leisure with drawings and paintings. Being a fast learner she is learning and adapting various skills in art and craft from the respective teacher. She is remarkably fast in learning Mathematics and English.
She wants to grow fast and establish her identity as a responsible citizen.
