Project Update: Empowering 1000+ Kids in Langa CT - #52196
Dear Donor
We are thrilled to share the latest progress and achievements of our mobile classroom project aimed at empowering children in Langa, Cape Town. With your continued support, we have seen remarkable growth and impact in the lives of over 1400 learners across multiple educational programs.
New Teacher and Cohort: We are delighted to welcome Unathi Kapela, a dedicated educator from Bay Primary School, who has joined our program. Unathi now leads the third cohort of interns from Ort-SA, bringing fresh perspectives and enthusiasm to our initiatives.
Success Stories: We are proud to announce that one of last year's interns has been offered a position at VUSA after successfully completing their internship in March 2024. This success not only highlights the effectiveness of our training but also showcases the opportunities our program creates for local talent.
Program Expansion and Impact: Our program now supports 1400 learners through English as a Second Language and coding programs in schools, as well as math and coding initiatives in VUSA's afterschool program. Assessments conducted last year showed a significant 20% improvement across all schools, indicating the positive impact of our interventions.
Innovative Approaches: Through a study focusing on English and Math, we discovered a direct correlation between mastering phonics in the English program and improved math skills. As a result, we have integrated the Reading Eggs program into our afterschool curriculum, alongside the Matific program, leading to remarkable improvements in math comprehension.
Enhanced Curriculum and Opportunities: Our afterschool program now includes Coding and incorporates themes from various curriculum subjects, enhancing digital literacy, coding skills, critical thinking, imagination, and teamwork among children. The inclusion of coding has opened doors to new learning avenues and skill development for our young participants.
The Impact of Atlas Digibus: The Atlas Digibus continues to be a game-changer, adding immense value to our program by providing access to technology and innovative learning tools. Your ongoing support has enabled us to leverage these resources effectively and create meaningful learning experiences for the children of Langa.
Looking Ahead: As we move forward, we remain committed to fostering a nurturing and empowering environment for all learners. We are grateful for your unwavering support, which fuels our efforts to make a lasting difference in the lives of these children.
Thank you for being an integral part of our journey and for believing in the power of education to transform communities.
Kind regards
Nikki & the VUSA Team
