Life-Saving Mobile Care in North Darfur

The need did not stop when Phase 1 ended. It never does.

When SAMA's mobile clinic completed its first phase in Kaima Camp, Tawila, the displaced families we served were not going home. The conflict in North Darfur was intensifying, displacement was growing, and thousands of families in nearby Khartoum Jadid, another gathering site within Tawila Locality — had no access to any health facility whatsoever.

Thanks to the continued generosity of our donors and the support of Americares Foundation, SAMA launched a new phase of the mobile clinic in Khartoum Jadid in July 2026. In just the first month of operations, the clinic has already made its mark.

600 patients every week. One clinic. No other option.

Since opening on July 18, 2026, the clinic has delivered over 1,796 consultations in its first month alone — serving approximately 600 patients every week. For the displaced families of Khartoum Jadid, this clinic is not one option among many. It is the only one. There is no other health facility in the area.

Mothers bring their children in with malaria, respiratory infections, and the visible signs of malnutrition. Elderly men and women arrive having gone months without care for chronic conditions. Pregnant women receive antenatal care that many have never had access to before. In the first month, the clinic delivered 192 antenatal consultations, supported 5 safe deliveries, and provided 43 family planning services — all free of charge.

From worry to relief.

Rawda Mohamed, a displaced mother in Khartoum Jadid, described what the clinic means to her family.

"Before the clinic, I used to worry every time one of my children got sick. The cost of medications was something I could not afford."

Today, Rawda brings her children to the clinic and leaves with the medications they need — at no cost. Every time. Her story echoes across the camp, where hundreds of families are experiencing access to healthcare for the first time since their displacement.

Preparing for the outbreak season.

North Darfur is now in the peak of its rainy season — the most dangerous period for malaria, cholera, and waterborne disease. To prepare, SAMA and our implementing partner Patient Helping Fund Organization (PHF) have procured and distributed 1,000 insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) to the most vulnerable households in Khartoum Jadid, prioritizing pregnant women, elderly individuals, and families who have never received a net before. Local authorities coordinated the beneficiary selection process to ensure fairness and accountability.

Every morning at the clinic, the health promoter holds a community awareness session in the waiting area — tailored to the most common diseases presenting at the clinic that week. These sessions are turning a waiting room into a classroom, building health literacy one morning at a time.

The work continues — and so does the need.

Sudan's crisis shows no sign of easing. Millions remain displaced, vaccination coverage in conflict-affected areas has collapsed to approximately 30%, and disease outbreaks remain an ever-present threat. The mobile clinic in Khartoum Jadid is one answer — but it is only possible because of donors like you.
