Celebrating 50 wonderful adventures around the sun is a moment for sincere gratitude. Miriam's goal is to celebrate by "giving back" with a personal goal to raise at least $5.000 for Vital Voices Panama and the young mothers and babies they help. She has pledged to double every dollar donated, so, together with her, YOU can make a meaningful difference in the lives of these girls and their babies!
- We love to live in Panama, but this country is one of the most unequal countries in Latin America and in the world with lots of poverty and violence against women and girls. - There is a significant gap in access to health care and education, now with Covid even more as schools are closed since March 2020. - Every third baby born in Panama has a teen mom and 75% of them drop out of school. - There is officially no sexual education in schools. - Sexual abuse of girls is rising
At Vital Voices Panama, they created an integral program that allows teen mothers to recover, and achieve their life projects, securing a better quality of life for their families. The "Las Claras" project provides teen mothers psychological support, education, integral health services, vocational training and top quality day care services, empowering and motivating young mothers to be productive agents in our society, socially and economically.
Every day teen mothers are victims of violations against their basic human rights. The Las Claras project seeks to provide teen mothers with the adequate tools for them to re-enter society in a productive way, so that being a teen mother is not a barrier to their personal and professional development.
