In rural Sitapur, close by Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, school is preparing to start again. Teachers and students have been on a short summer break as the school construction prepares an entirely new level of the school.
Teachers come back this week to invest in planning for the upcoming year. As the school prepares to start a fresh year, the Milaan staff is excited about building a space to encourage critical thinking and active imaginations in rural India.
Last week, our staff room was brightened up with a variety of brand-new learning posters and globes. As school approaches we are preparing to bring 'The Only Library' to Kantain, Uttar Pradesh, and it's exciting!
As a team we're all getting excited about reading and how we think it can transform a community.
Meet Mohamed Sellemia. He's an MBA candidate at Schulich School of Business who has traveled all the way from Canada to work with us on the campaign. Along with myself, he is one of the major driving forces for this campaign. "A book is the most beautiful way to get into another world," says Mohamed when asked why he thinks a library matters to the community.
His belief in creative learning spaces and providing access to a library for the rural community of Kantain has driven him to travel half way across the world. Mohamed's university library in Canada has been promoting the campaign in an effort to encourage a world full of libraries.
To learn more about why our team thinks libraries can make a difference in our community: check out our blog. We'd love to hear from you! Please send us stories and thoughts on why you feel strongly about our library. We'll publish them on our blog!
In gratitude,
Alyssa for the Milaan Team
