Food Shortages Continue to Affect Rural Families

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Thank you for your kindness and support toward the Microloans for Nigerian Women to Grow Food at Home project. Your generosity brings hope to women and families facing growing food insecurity across rural communities in Nigeria.

While we are grateful for the donations received so far, the available funds are still not enough to begin the first phase of the project. More support is needed before we can start providing microloans to the selected beneficiaries.

Many rural families continue to struggle with food shortages as insecurity and the herder-farmer crisis have made farming difficult in several communities. Numerous families have abandoned their farmlands due to safety concerns, while many widows face additional hardship after losing access to family farmland following the death of their husbands. As a result, many households are finding it increasingly difficult to produce enough food for their families.

This project is designed to provide 1,000 interest-free and no-collateral microloans to women, enabling them to grow vegetables and other food crops within their home compounds. Home-based food production offers a safer alternative for women who cannot access farmland and creates opportunities to improve household nutrition while generating income from surplus produce.

With adequate support, women will be able to grow food closer to home, reduce hunger within their families, and improve their ability to meet basic household needs. Income earned from excess harvests can also help support children's education and other essential expenses.

We remain grateful for the support received so far and hopeful that additional donations will make it possible to begin this important food security project soon. In future reports, we hope to share updates, photos, and stories from the first beneficiaries.

Thank you once again for your kindness and continued support.

Sincerely,

Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
