Training Women on Village Savings and Loan Management
AlliedAid Uganda organized a capacity-building session for women’s saving groups in Tororo District to improve their knowledge of village savings and loan management. The training aimed to strengthen the ability of women to manage group funds responsibly while using savings and loans to support productive activities.
The women were trained on how to establish clear group rules, determine affordable savings contributions, manage loan applications, set repayment schedules, and maintain accurate financial records. Special attention was given to responsible borrowing so that members could avoid taking loans that they may struggle to repay.
Participants learned how small loans can be used to start or expand income-generating activities such as vegetable farming, poultry keeping, food vending, tailoring, small retail businesses, and other local enterprises. Trainers encouraged members to prioritize investments that can generate income rather than using loans for unnecessary consumption.
The training also addressed the importance of transparency in managing group finances. Members were encouraged to regularly review financial records, maintain clear documentation, and ensure that group decisions are made collectively.
Women actively participated in practical exercises involving savings calculations, loan repayment planning, and simple bookkeeping. The sessions helped participants better understand how well-managed saving groups can become an important source of affordable financial support.
AlliedAid Uganda will continue supporting women’s saving groups with skills and knowledge that can help them build sustainable livelihoods and strengthen their economic independence.
