Since the first quarter of 2015, we at Idea Builders Initiative have been renewing the Commitment of support for the ‘contenders’ leading the charge in the various public schools. Two batches of peer mentors (contenders) in the challenge have undergone refresher capsule sessions with Idea Builders Women Leadership Council.
Key Outcomes
o 100% of the Contenders are re-energized and prepared to take calculated risks –‘to do something positive that scares you’
o 50% of the launched pay-forward mini projects have been completed.
Once again, Idea Builders Initiative and its Team say a great big 'Thank you' to our donors for supporting and encouraging us in our mission for the girls in our society.
Please invite your family and friends to donate and give us feedback on our reports so far to enable us improve and implement better strategies to achieve our Organizational Vision: A Society of Women Leading Lives of Choice.
Agricultural Science Project by Jacinta Uramah -A Mentoring Challenge Contender serving at Ebutte Elefun High School, Lagos Island, Lagos-NIGERIA
Jacinta Uramah is holds an Agriculture Certification from the Obafemi Awolowo University, ile-ife, Osun State. Being an enterprising and zealous agriculturist, Jacinta is setting up Young Farmers’ Clubs (YFC) in public secondary schools in ile-ife central local government area.
She wants to transfer her skills, share her passion and pay-forward her experience in the mentoring programme having the firm belief that empowerment is key. She wants to “catch them young” –whilst in secondary schools - exposing them to alternative livelihood possibilities and how they could be relevant in the society. By engaging pupils in productive activities, she hopes to curb the distractions and excesses characteristic of adolescent exuberance.
Her project is targeting between 25 - 50 students studying agriculture by choice in the Senior Secondary classes of public schools –starting with Ebutte Elefun High School. Activities include workshops, inter-school green club essay competitions plus prizes for outstanding students and schools; examples of Agricultural projects include: classroom labs, broiler farms, layers farm, crop farms, piggery, snail farms, etc) which would be maintained by the school alongside the students in club.
