MENTORING CHALLENGE MID-TERM REPORT Contenders have adopted schools and have begun conducting sessions and training the girls on various topics. The students have been very excited about the presence of external mentors and the time with the girls seems promising. We have had a number of the girls share their personal experiences with the Peer mentors and they are doing what they can to ensure that those who have put out their hands seeking help get what is necessary to change their lives. We met with Ebony Faith who said, "I have always thought being pretty mattered a lot until I encountered Aunty Gloria from Idea Builders Initiative. I'm beginning to discover good qualities I possess and things I can do" In the course of our work, we still look out for more of the girls who have something personal to share with us. There are also continuous revisions of the sessions for future contenders in order to ensure a greater level of assimilation by the students. Peer mentors treat diverse topics as laid out in the training manual. They also adopt the use of illustrations to further interpret the curriculum content to the girls. They have two more sessions to go, and then they have to coordinate the students to deliver a self-driven project in the school either in oral hygiene, environmental clean-up walk or hand-washing. Thereafter the Peer Mentoring Club will be inaugurated in each school.
