Thank you so much to everyone who contributed towards The Joel's Place/Global Giving Challenge. We met, and surpassed, every criteria of 50 donors and $4,000 in 30 days. We now have a place on the Global Giving Website and are able to cast our partnership net much further than ever before. It would not have been possible without each one of you.
This is an exciting time to be at Joel's Place. The parking lot was just paved over, giving us an outstanding outdoors component to match our internal facility. The kids are skating and biking all over it as much as they can before the snow flies. There is no use denying it, winter is almost here. The trees are bare, the temperatures have dropped and it is getting darker earlier each day. With summer a distant memory, more and more kids are coming by to skate and hang out. Some come because they are bored; some come because they need to be around people who care about them; some come because they have nowhere else to go. One young man told me that whenever he gets in trouble at school, his punishment is to be locked out of the house for a few days...regardless of the temperatures. Your partnership allows us to provide a safe, warm place for the youth of Interior Alaska to rest and laugh when the rest of the world throws them into the cold.
