We want to thank you for your continued support of Joel’s Place during our time of transition. Since reopening on January 29th we have successfully operated both Raw Joy School Age Program and Joel’s Place with volunteers. This has been a value of over $50,000 in program costs.
With your support we have added Mike as the Executive Director with a minister’s housing allowance and contracted with former board member, Kay Patersson’s book keeping company, adding her as our Chief Financial Officer. As of May 2nd we will have our first two program employees and add two more May 16th. We have also enlisted three teens as summer interns.
Plans for Raw Joy are coming together and we are in the thick of meeting licensing requirements. We expect to be fully licensed by fall. This summer we are offering a very flexible program with operating hours of 7am-7pm Monday through Friday for 45 children each day, ages 5-12. We will be an open site with the Summer Food Service Program serving free breakfast and lunch. Our favorite community collaboration, Bone Builder’s Backpacks, will keep us connected with children all over the city who would usually get free lunch at school, filling a backpack with food each of the 12 weeks of summer break.
One of our dad's recently donated 7 refurbished bicycles to our program and Fairbanks Youth Sports and MAC transit donated three more along with 12 new loaner skateboards so that no one gets left out.
Joel’s Place will remain steady on Friday nights throughout the summer with Skate Church, dinner at 7pm, worship at 8pm followed by an intense time of shredding the park! On Saturday nights we have a couple of concerts planned. Please connect with us on Facebook or Instagram @ JP907.
Thank you for believing in our mission to provide adventurous, creative and adrenalin seeking youth a good, positive outlet for their energy.
