Summary

PsyQuilibre is a Tunisian project promoting the mental health of vulnerable youth. In a country where more than one in seven adolescents suffers from a mental health disorder, this project fills the gap in appropriate services by offering free and early access to psychological care. By extending and expanding the existing initiative, PsyQuilibre provides students in difficulty with immediate support (helpline) and ongoing support (mobile app and mobile team of psychologists).

Challenge

Mental health is a growing public health concern among Tunisian youth. Research indicates that over one-third of university students experience moderate to severe depressive symptoms. Stigma, low awareness, and financial barriers delay help-seeking, increasing risks of isolation, academic failure, and suicidality. Expanding PsyQuilibre will provide free or low-cost early intervention for middle and high school students, improving access to timely care and prevention.

Solution

PsyQuilibre adopts a multisectoral, evidence-informed model: a free anonymous crisis helpline staffed by trained psychologists; a mobile app enabling validated self-screening (anxiety/depression...), psychoeducation, and appointment scheduling; mobile psychologists delivering in-person and online consultations; and awareness workshops for students, parents, and teachers to reduce stigma and improve early detection.

Long-Term Impact

PsyQuilibre will directly benefit 3000 young people by providing early psychological support, reducing the incidence of chronic mental disorders and improving academic retention. This will allow students to complete their education, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and transition more successfully into adulthood. By strengthening early intervention systems, the project will also reduce pressure on families and the public health system while improving overall productivity and social stability
