TPO Gives Me A New Life

By Seang Leap | Psychologist/Project Coordinator

TPO Gives Me A New Life

She, 34 years, live at one of districts in Banteay Meanchey near Khmer Thai border. She finished high school. While we reached her house, she said that “I want to be a daughter of god”. She talked alone and we can’t communicate with her.

Her mother talked with crying. She said “I feel hopeless; she was abandoned with chain. No one cared because she became crazy. She lost her future.”

Her mum said she had never supposed my daughter became psychosis. She went to attend extra course, then she disappeared for a week. They spent for 7 days to look for her in her district, Thmor Puok but can’t see her. Her friend who studied university in Battambang called and told that her daughter was at Anlong Vill Pagoda. Then her mum went to Battambang by car to bring her back home.

When reaching home, she went out of the car and to take knife to make people harm. Her parents had no alternative. No one in the village was brave to take action. Her mum ran to police station for help, police didn’t take action. Her parents spent for 3 years to seek treatment from medical approach (public hospitals and private clinics) and traditional healing approaches. They sold their properties and then became poor but their daughter was not better.

They have no hope for recovery and for preventing from harm others and for her safety, her parents decided painfully to locked her up at the cottage alone for 8 years.

After getting treatment from TPO, she has been better. Her parents decided to unchain her and let her live with them. Currently she could take care herself and do some house work such as cooking, washing clothes and make relationship with other people in the village.

This case is famous through out the district and they appreciated and congratulated for her recovery and become normal person like others.
