Dear GlobalGiving Community,
We are deeply grateful for your ongoing support on our journey to turn periods into pathways! Your generosity has empowered more people to embrace menstruation as the healthy bodily process it is, rather than a stigmatized burden. Your donation is a direct investment in a brighter future for the women and girls in Lebanon.
Your support enables us to address the ever-evolving menstrual health needs of refugee women and girls in Lebanon, where recent challenges have exacerbated an already precarious situation. Amidst escalating tensions and political pressure, Syrian refugees in Lebanon are currently facing increased violence, with hundreds of thousands on the brink of deportation.
In response to these pressing needs, Days for Girls Lebanon has remained committed to its mission. The DfG Social Enterprise, predominantly staffed by refugees, plays an essential role in fostering sustainable change within the refugee community. By empowering refugee women to produce and distribute DfG’s patented menstrual health products, we not only address an immediate need but also create avenues for livelihood and income generation.
We are thrilled to report the tangible impact of your generosity. Thanks to the generous contributions from our supporters, Days for Girls was able to provide menstrual health support to refugee women and girls in Lebanon.
Between January and February of 2024, the Days for Girls Social Enterprise was busy delivering education, and producing, preparing, and packing washable pad kits for distribution in local areas.
From March to April 2024, our team traveled to the Minyara and Arqa refugee camps in Northern Lebanon, where members of the local Social Enterprise, conducted DfG menstrual health education sessions and distributed the DfG Kits to 70 Syrian refugee women and girls. Team members documented the distribution through a series of photos, taken and shared with consent from the participants.
Days for Girls adopts a comprehensive, culturally sensitive strategy to combat menstrual inequality. In addition to providing sustainable products (i.e. washable pads, panties, and washcloths), we prioritize including culturally-tailed menstrual health education sessions in our outreach. These sessions are designed to foster a positive attitude towards menstruation by promoting menstrual literacy and nurturing a body-positive mindset. The stigma surrounding menstruation not only impacts women's autonomy, well-being, and self-perception but also limits their access to essential menstrual health products.
In the coming months, Days for Girls will continue to monitor the progress and impact of our initiatives by contacting participants and collecting feedback on their experiences using the DfG Kits. Gathering periodic feedback from participants is crucial for Days for Girls, as it allows us to continually improve and adapt our services to meet the needs of the targeted communities.
On behalf of the Days for Girls team in Lebanon, thank you once again for your invaluable contribution. Your unwavering support has made this progress possible, and we are immensely grateful for your partnership.
We could not have done this without you!
With gratitude,
The Days for Girls Team
