MEDTREKS MID-YEAR UPDATES

By Esther Nyaga | Resource Mobilization and Fundraising Officer

As the year progresses, MedTrek’s commitment to developing and strengthening global health has only continued to grow. MedTreks is committed to promoting collaboration with Village HopeCore by building the capacity of the Kenyan teams, providing high-quality and accessible health services since 2018.

The MedTreks program is tailored in four main areas: education, collaboration, innovation, and empowerment. The World Health Organization reports that sub-Saharan Africa has 24% of the world's disease burden and only 3% of the healthcare workforce to address it. (WHO-Global Burden of Diseases, 2020). By utilizing the "Train of Trainer," our MedTreks program is designed to work cohesively with the HopeCore Public Health program in Kenya, providing specific training needed to expand healthcare workers in rural Kenya.

The MedTreks team is gearing up for their Mega Annual visit to Kenya on August 12-21, 2023. During this visit:

  • Continue with staff training and capacity building on various health topics.
  • Continue with healthcare discussions on a wide range of topics, and most importantly, on emerging issues in the health sector.
  • Maintain clinical mentorship to enhance improved knowledge and mentorship.
  • Organize a field health fair event that suits the community's needs at the moment.

We look forward to sharing highlights of these activities in the next report.
