Medtreks’ collaboration with Village HopeCore International brings together health professionals interested in improving global health from across the world. Since 2018, the program has built capacity through health education and clinical skills training. The partnership has enabled the enhancement of existing medical skills, and new strategies have been designed for efficient healthcare delivery in rural communities and underserved and vulnerable populations in Kenya.

Among the new strategies that MedTreks and HopeCore have been working on since their last visit in August 2021 is the use of Telehealth in health advancement. This is the use of digital information and communication technologies to access health care services remotely. The Med Treks and Hope Core Learning Center was launched in February to strengthen the Global Health Workforce by providing education resources on global health, travel & humanitarian medicine topics from anywhere in the world.

The HopeCore Academy aspect of the learning center aims to strengthen the Community Health workforce. There is a 24-lesson unique free certification course for Community Health Workers designed to empower CHVs with essential knowledge, skills, and competencies to enable them to function effectively as agents of health service delivery through the Kenya Essential Package for health at tier one. This provides rural health workers with an opportunity to learn how to implement core concepts and strategies for improving health systems in resource-limited areas.

Med Treks will be visiting Kenya in September 2022 to strengthen our Hope Core health care systems.  The nine-day collaborative community and global health visit will offer health education, clinical skills, training, and knowledge exchange and take Hope Core healthcare to the next level.

Additionally, the Med Treks nurses’ team has continued to provide consultative services for our Hope Core clinic team for unique cases encountered in the community. This has greatly improved the quality of services delivered to the community.
