Tan'si Friends!
Since our last check in this past September, the Medicine Wheels Rose City crew has been up to so much!
Even though the fall and winter seasons are tough in the Pacific Northwest - given the amount of rainy and grey days which leave us feeling lethargic and tired, we’ve still been finding the time to come together and celebrate our love of land and love a rolling!
A quick recap: As Medicine Wheels Rose City developed in 2021 we held just under 20 events / meetups that helped bring together an underserved community in safe and accessible way.
Some highlights: In the last few months we’ve begun “Intro To Ramps” classes with our community member Amber Hayes teaching / leading. Not to mention we have held a rad Halloween party and a Secret Sk8r gift party in December!
Since our last report in September we have supplied dozens of pairs of skates and skateboards along with helmets and pads to community members to help keep them rolling, moving and bonding with the land they reside on!
We have also built a community ramp and as of this weekend, I built two grind bars so folks can start trying new tricks and techniques with the support of each other!
As I sit here writing this, I have to acknowledge that we are still amidst a pandemic. Our crew has taken every precaution we could to ensure these events / meets have been safe. From ample supplies of hand sanitizer and bathroom access at our gatherings to supplying masks and open air spaces, as well as information - we have been both proud and grateful of the fact no one has gotten sick from attending our meets.
That being said, we have scaled back our regular meets and will be cancelling our January events as the new variants have been hitting marginalized communities very hard.
We know we will be okay, but knowing that doesn’t make it any easier.
We’re still grateful for all the support we’ve been given to provide gear, food and space to people that deserve to belong to something as special as them.
We will also be trying online info sessions and sending out supplies for those, ie: skate cleaning and maintenance events, “Ask a pro” sessions, etc.
All of this however could not have been done and still cannot be done without your support.
Thanks for helping keep us rolling! Just really grateful.
Hiy Hiy,
