Our donors always appreciate a note of thanks, but they LOVE to hear about how their donations are making a difference in the lives of children.
Sharon was enrolled in our care at 14 years of age, but her adherence was poor which prompted a visit to the her home. The team found a family conflict between her mother and father. Sharon's father left their home, only to return six months later to sell it. In addition, her mother turned to drinking for comfort. Sharon was suffering and her mother could not take her for care.
How do we turn around a devastating situation like Sharon was facing? We start with frequent home visits plus continuous counseling and support. Sharon's mother eventually stopped drinking and started supporting the care and treatment of her daughter. In response to the medication, Sharon's health quickly improved from poor to good.
Does this story have a happy ending after so much suffering? Sharon's mother stabilized and managed to get a job working for a cosmetic manufacturing plant in a nearby town. The best news is that Sharon's health improved to the point that she is now very healthy and looks to the future with hope.
Thank you for making a difference in Sharon's life by supporting our programs. If you would like to learn more about AFCA and our other programs, please contact Tanya Weaver at tweaver@afcaids.org.
