Mariam has been a widow for 35 years. Her husband, Wadih, died in a tragic accident at 34. He was a taxi driver when an stroke took his life, leaving Mariam to raise their two sons alone. She worked as a cleaner for many years, but her health began to decline. She was unable to continue working due to these health issues so she had to stop.
Her sons grew up and got married, but they still help her when they can. The house she lives in is old, and on top of that, the electricity bill is high. Her daughter, Darin, lives with her. Darin is married, has two children, and her husband works as a taxi driver. The family tries their best to help, but it's never easy.
A nun has been helping Mariam with food every two months, but it isn’t enough.
In 2024, it was discovered that Mariam was living alone. Her family couldn’t help her much since they all have families of their own. Her health had worsened, and she hadn’t worked in two years. Her sister occasionally brings her food, but Mariam needs medicine and more assistance.
Now 69, Mariam struggles daily with her health and loneliness. She holds on to the memory of her husband but continues to fight, hoping for support to get through each day. She is one of the many that we are able to ease at least one burden from her shoulders by giving her the medication she needs.
