Across Canada, 10 million people, or 25% of the country’s total population, are food insecure. This has led to unprecedented usage of local food banks, with the number of first-time food bank users growing exponentially month by month. In response, GlobalMedic launched its McAntony’s Menu in 2020. McAntony’s Menu leverages bulk purchasing power and volunteer support to reduce costs. We repack 50lb bags of pantry staples (rice, beans, chickpeas, etc.) into smaller 500-700g portions at 25-33% of the retail price.
As we move into the summer months some families lose access to supports provided to them through school feeding programs, childcare and household expenses rise, and the opportunity for vulnerable folks to slip through the cracks rises. It is so important that staple ingredients continue to be available to food bank users year round. With many food banks seeing a decline in food donations, programs like McAntony's Menu become even more important.
Since the beginning of the year, GlobalMedic has distributed more than 700,000 lbs of food to our network of food bank partners across the country. All donations to this program are used to purchase bulk food and packing supplies to keep pushing food out into the hands of those who need it most. Please consider supporting the program today!
