Following a visit to Mable by Craig Davis (volunteer landscape gardener) in April to oversee the grounds works, the playing surface is looking really good - flat and ready to play on.
The whole process of getting work done on the grounds has been a unifying force for the community in the Wanale division of Mable, and out in to other parts of the town. Closest to all this is the neighboring orphanage, many of the kids are becoming regular attendees at training sessions !
The intention was for England Counties to play their first Tour fixture there in June, but we faced one or two challenges in terms of preparation for a full scale international rugby fixture ... so, naturally we are all disappointed, but all are hungrier to get the club ready to host future visitors.
The schoolchildren of Mbale didn't miss out though ... TRT ran a full scale weeks Tour in 16 schools in town, all selected and prepared by the fantastic local Tag Rugby Committee. Tournament day was hosted at the grounds and close on 1000 people had a great afternoon of Tag Rugby ... competing for the "Cup that will be used until Lifeway School return the old one Cup" ... won by Mwamba P S
In the last few weeks we have heard that the Ugandan Rugby Union has selected Mbale for a round of the national 7's circuit.
Progress :-)
