EMPOWERMENT AND EDUCATION OF WOMEN

By Carina Vasquez | Directora de Cojolya

Andrea and Lourdes together taking the first step
Andrea and Lourdes together taking the first step

The family income of several families comes from weaving and over the years several women have challenged their skills and knowledge to achieve personal and family goals and objectives.

Andrea is a great example for many women, despite the circumstances and hard knocks of life. Because she was the eldest of her siblings, after the death of her mother, she was left from a young age with the role of mother for her family. Day after day she transmits her strength through the weaving she makes, she is passionate about learning more techniques and has diversified her skills. She did not have the opportunity to study, but this has not been a barrier in her life and much less has it been an impediment for her sisters and brother to have the opportunity to study.

Lourdes, the youngest sister of Andrea's family, has lived and grown up among the threads for weaving since her early years. She also learned to weave thanks to her sister. Since she was very little, Lourdes has had the dream of studying medicine, dreams that seemed impossible. But with perseverance, effort, daily work, family sacrifice and with the support of Cojolya's education program, Lourdes two years ago took the first step to begin her medical studies. This year she has managed to complete the first step, she has received the diploma and certificate of Bachelor of Medicine. It is an achievement for an entire family. Andrea and Lourdes are empowered women and examples of perseverance and strength.

Lurdes' achievement is also an achievement for Andrea.

Education is fundamental and is the right of every person.

DONOR, thank you for your support! Your donation helped Andrea and Lourdes take the first step toward their long-awaited dream.
