Very few students in the community of Santiago Atitlán have access to technological
resources in their homes and even in their schools. In Guatemala there are many schools
that still don’t have access to computers for their students.
The students who benefit from the Mano a Mano Cojolya program have received access
to computers so that they can do their schoolwork and even attend online classes. For
this reason, we are offering trainings in using the computers to our youngest students so
that they can become more familiar with technology and adapt more easily to the new
way of studying and attending class.
Hadasa, Lidia, and Dulce María are very enthusiastic about the computer training
because they want to keep learning despite the difficulties of the pandemic. Currently
the students are learning to identify the different parts of a computer and their respective
functions and little by little learning to complete all their school activities on a
computer.
By providing the computers and training we are helping the students learn in addition to
helping their families financially. If students need to go to an internet café to complete
their homework, their families have to pay for that service and many families do not
have enough economic resources to support their children due to the very limited work
opportunities available at this time.
