Project Report | Apr 22, 2024
Report on the Matinza School Project

By Helena Sladky | Fundraising/Communications Officer

Dear Donors,

In the past four months running from December 28, 2023 to April 25, 2024, we thrived to achieve the goals the Matinza Sanitation project has set out to do. The Right to Quality Education team has continuously aimed to generate as many donations as possible, mainly through a close collaboration with the UWC primary school in Maastricht. On April 11th, Lucía and I attended the Walk for Water event at the school during which the students between Kindergarten and grade 6 collected 2€ each and ran laps around the school. This event raised a considerable amount of money for the Matinza school sanitation project, which will be sent to the school as soon as possible.

Furthermore, there will be a post on social media about the happening that will hopefully generate more donations for the purpose. All the funds raised will go directly towards the Matinza project to ensure that the children are provided with renovated sanitary facilities as soon as possible, ensuring a safe learning environment for both children and teachers. We are pleased to let you know that we plan to develop this collaboration further and by so doing organizing more events in an attempt to foster greater visibility of the Matinza project as we strive to achieve our goal. Furthermore, we are in close contact with the stakeholders of the Matinza primary school to get as much new data as possible.

Additionally, we are expanding the expertise and knowledge of our Right to Quality Education team. We are continuing the recruitment of volunteers who have experience in managing projects, fundraising, and advertising effectively so that we can complete the project. The new volunteers will mobilize their direct environment for donations as a next step before coming up with a more sustainable plan on how to generate regular donations.

Please let us share a message with all donors: You make a huge impact on the lives of many school girls and boys by providing them with proper sanitation and adequate water, by doing so combating absenteeism and preventing the lack of access to quality education. Be sure to follow the Centre for African Justice, Peace, and Human Rights on social media to be informed about updates on the Matinza project and any upcoming events.
