Matinza Primary School Fundraising Update:
-
Dear Donors,
This past quarter, our team has worked tirelessly to achieve the goals the Matinza Sanitation project has set out to do. We participated in the GlobalGiving crowdfunding campaign Little by Little, which took place from September 12th until the 16th. From September until January 1st, we received 81$ in donations through crowdfunding. In order to increase our efforts, we have since successfully restructured our social media approach and established a concrete outreach strategy to grow our network.
Currently, we are working on two fundraising events to match our crowdfunding efforts. Our first planned event is a music fundraiser in collaboration with a music school. There will be multiple performances for which tickets will be sold, and additionally, we will organize a lottery to enhance fundraising efforts. Secondly, we are setting up a hybrid fundraiser called “Walk for Water,” where participants will be walking 3.7 miles daily for a week, the average distance people without insufficient access to water need to walk to fetch water. Participants themselves will recruit sponsors who will fund their walk. The fundraiser, which raises funds and awareness for the dire situation, is planned for February.
Undoubtedly, all the funds raised will go directly towards the Matinza project to ensure that the children are provided with renovated sanitary facilities as soon as possible, ensuring a safe learning environment for both children and teachers.
Additionally, we established a partnership with the student consulting group I Do, a project that connects non-governmental organizations with students of the Rotterdam Management School of Erasmus University. Together, we are working on increasing awareness of WASH projects within the student community, as well as setting up new fundraising events. Be sure to follow our social media pages for these upcoming events.
Furthermore, we are in close contact with the stakeholders of the Matinza primary school. For example, a team member of the Centre for African Justice, Peace and Human Rights met with a Ugandan stakeholder in person. Together we are organizing to get new pictures and material from the Matinza school and the people involved in order to improve fundraising advertising with a more direct look of those students and teachers that will benefit from the project.
As always, we continually seek donations and fundraising opportunities to ensure the construction and completion of this project can be carried out. If you are in the position to do so, we value every donation, no matter how large or small; every euro has an impact. While raising funds for the Matinza project, we also aim to raise awareness about the importance of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene projects (WASH). In November, our magazine on the connection between WASH, climate change, and education is being published. Currently, we are working on our upcoming quarterly magazine, which will center around the link between sexual and reproductive health and rights and how it affects children’s education. We aim to highlight changemakers from Uganda and innovative ideas and technological advances in this field.
As mentioned before, be sure to follow the Centre for African Justice, Peace, and Human Rights on social media to be informed about the publishing date of the magazine and updates on the Matinza project.
