On August 13, 2016, The Shanti Uganda Society hosted its annual fundraiser. This year, Shanti Uganda was provided with an opening to host a Benefit Night in Kampala at The Bistro Restaurant. This night included an opportunity for the public to come out and enjoy a night under the stars in support of ‘A Night for Shanti’. Customers who came into the restaurant and mentioned The Shanti Uganda Society to their servers, were able to donate a percentage of the proceeds made from their dinner purchases to the organization. They were also provided with a chance to learn more about the work that Shanti Uganda does within Luweero and its surrounding communities.
With the DJs playing all the latest music hits to keep the crowd lively, the Shanti Uganda staff and interns mingling with the guests, and the The Bistro Restaurant working hard to produce amazing food, the night was off to a lovely start. In efforts of introducing the multiple faces of Shanti Uganda to the guests, the interns took turns working at the pop-up Women Income Generating Group store. With the merchandise – all hand-made by the WIGG women – displayed across a couple tables, the guests were able to purchase items and learn more about each of the individual women that made the various products.
‘A Night for Shanti’ attracted guests from all walks of life: university students, families, expatriates and even the Danish ambassador in Uganda. Despite the various backgrounds of the guests, the Shanti Uganda staff and interns were faced with similarquestions from the inquisitive patrons. Some of the reoccurring questions included:
Not only did ‘A Night for Shanti’ work to raise money for variousongoing andupcoming Shanti Uganda projects, but it also served as an opportunity to raise awareness for the work that the organization does within its community.
We would like to take a moment to thank everyone that was involved in the planning and execution of ‘A Night for Shanti’. With that said, it is not lost upon the Shanti Uganda community that such events would not be possible if it were not for the continued support of donors –just like you.
Stay tuned for more updates on the progress of the ongoing and coming projects.
