PACE Family Planning Outreach

On Friday, July 15th, The Shanti Uganda Society staff collaborated with PACE’s vocational health trainers (VHTs) to provide a family planning outreach day. In Seeta, a neighbouring village of Shanti’s Birth House, VHTs Flora and Margaret mobilized women and men as they walked the streets with a megaphone.

“Come join us for family planning, it is free today for both men and women”, explained Flora through the megaphone. As she ventured through Seeta, many curious faces appeared from inside houses. Flora took the time to approach these people to sit down with them and to further explain the services available to them that day. With wide eyes, the men and women listened as Flora taught them short term and long term family planning methods. Through the use of pictures, supplies and books, Flora was able to mobilize many eager community members.

As the day progressed, women with babies in arms, arrived at the village’s center to receive family planning. Throughout the day, with the help of Shanti’s midwives, PACE and Shanti were able to provide 6 implants, 1 IUD, and 1 injection to women in Seeta.

Since Friday, Shanti’s Birth House has been happy to see many new faces from women who were given referrals in Seeta, or whom heard about the family planning services from Friday’s clients.

It is with your support and donations that PACE and Shanti are able to provide family planning and outreach events. These functions allow a variety of villages and towns to become aware of and to benefit from services available to them in their communities.
