Shanti's Lab

By Chelsea Gomes | Communications Intern

Lab Technician; Sarah.
Lab Technician; Sarah.

Since opening the Birth House in 2010, the number of clients’ tested for HIV has multiplied by five. Not only does Shanti test women for HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Syphillis and STIs, but their partners as well. Since 2010, Shanti has tested 423 partners for HIV and Syphillis. We are so happy to see the numbers of tests climb each year at Shanti. This could not have been done without the hard work of Lab Technician; Sarah.

Born and raised in Luweero, Sarah plays a large role at Shanti. In 2013, she graduated from her orthopedic studies in Kiwoko. Since finishing her studies, Sarah worked at Kasala Health Center, and has since been a part of Shanti’s team for a year and a half. As a lab technician, Sarah works tirelessly to test and record results manually. Her hard work allows patients to have their test results within 5-20 minutes, depending on the test.

Sarah enjoys working in Shanti’s positive environment. Her hands on job allows her to work closely with staff whom she refers to as more than staff but rather as friends. We are so happy to have a Lab Technician that is passionate about her work and is able to provide quick results to many community members.
