Project Report | Jan 22, 2014
Thank You for an Amazing 2013!!

By Sadie Anne St. Denis | Executive Director

Because of you, in 2013 over 191 healthy babies were born safely with the support of Shanti Uganda’s highly-skilled midwives.

  • 416 mothers received essential prenatal care for a safe and healthy delivery.
  • 487 mothers were tested for HIV/AIDS, the first step in the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS.
  • Mothers were treated for serious illnesses in pregnancy such as malaria and syphilis which are among the leading causes of miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery and low birth weight in Uganda.
  • Over 500 children were vaccinated against measles, tuberculosis, tetanus, polio, and other killer childhood diseases.
  • 135 couples have received access to birth control and the guidance necessary to help them effectively space and plan for their family
  • 156 babies were treated in their first year of life for malaria, diarrhea, flu and other killer diseases

Additionally our midwives participated in 12 Continuing Medical Education Training workshops to refresh their skills and offer the best care available in Uganda!

As on of our young inspiring midwives, Stella, says, "I want to talk to women and be an inspiration so women know we all have been in tough times, but we all get there in the end!"

The kind of compassionate and loving care offered to vulnerble mothers in need at The Shanti Uganda Birth Centre illustrates that no matter where she comes and no matter what the circumstances, with a little help, she will "get there in the end."

Please take a moment to watch our video message (link provided below) to learn more about the impact donations just like yours have made in the lives of women and girls in Uganda in 2013!
