#MomsMatter: Meet Sarah

By Mathew Towers | Communications Intern

Did you know we're expanding our birth house? Shanti has been busier than ever recently, and in order to best serve our mothers we need new birth rooms. This years holiday campaign is called #MomsMatter, and focuses on showcasing the reason for this expansion: our mothers. We'd like to share the story of one mother who is close to our heart: Our lab tech Sarah, she's pretty inspiring.

To Sarah being a mother is wanting to make a better life for her and her son Travis.  This is the second #MomsMatter story. This is Sarah.

“When I was pregnant I was so proud. Being it was something new, my body was still adjusting to these new changes. I was like wow I managed to carry up to nine months.”

Sarah says that as a mother your children inspire you to be and do better. She says that Travis inspires her to be strong and responsible. To be a mother. She is currently back at school because she wants follow her dreams, make a good life for her and her son.

“I have to use my tuition responsibly, because if I don’t what of my kid?”

No matter what Sarah is always working hard and giving it her all. She expertly juggles her coursework with her responsibilities as both a mother and a Shanti employee. Her dream is to one day become an epidemiologist, and we definitely think Dr. Sarah has a nice ring to it.

Her favorite part of her job as a Lab Technician at Shanti is that she discovers the unknown, getting to solve mysteries every day. “When somebody comes sick I have to rule out what is causing that person to be sick, it makes me proud” says Sarah. Every day she remembers how happy she was when she graduated and got her first job right out of school.

Sarah never gives up on her dreams, on herself, or on her son. She has gotten where she is with hard work and determination, and urges everybody following their dreams to do the same.
