Maternal child health care awareness

The  project addresses social disparities in MNCH, Nutrition and Family planning through a health related poverty alleviation initiative. The project will be implemented in Siaya, Kisumu, Vihiga and Nairobi Counties in  Kenya specifically in Uyoma, Nyakach, maraba and Kayole sub-counties experience inequitable distribution of national resources, high maternal and child mortality rates, poor infrastructure, low literacy rates, recurrent drought and flooding in some of them, lack of water and perennial food shortages. The project endeavors to improve the health status of the Counties, while promoting improved access to quality Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) services and Family Planning (FP). It seeks to contribute towards reversing Kenya’s declining health indicators by directly addressing SDGs and contributes to SDGs goal 2 (zero hunger) and 3 (good health and well-being) and contribute to scaling up of RMNCH services leading to realization of Kenyans Vision 2030.

AIMS

To address Social Disparities in Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, Nutrition and Family Planning through strengthening the health systems, its linkages to the community and Health Related Poverty Initiative in Kenya.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

To reduce maternal, newborn, and child mortality and morbidity among disadvantaged communities in Kenya, accelerating progress towards the attainment of the SDGs and contribute to the realization of Kenya’s Vision 2030.

Specific Objectives

1. To promote demand/supply and access to quality RMNCH services 

2. To increase uptake of high impact nutrition interventions for mothers, newborns and children under five years through preventive and management actions to reduce malnutrition 

3. To increase demand and utilization of quality family planning (FP) and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services; 

4. To strengthen the health-care delivery system to provide quality MNCH, nutrition, FP and SRH services 

5. Strengthening health system linkages with the community.

6. To generate evidence and learning for sustainable and comprehensive community models for increasing  RMNCH/FP in remote and hard to reach communities that are applicable to regional stakeholders dealing with similar population.

CBOs to sensitize 120.000 men and women, 75,000 young people, 60 village elders, 400  traditional health practitioners on reproductive health rights and Family Planning.

Family Planning and Sexual Reproductive Health Rights champions. 

WATSAN management committees to support Reproductive Health care .

a) Make healthcare readily accessible and affordable to expectant mothers, children, the elderly and the local community in general. b) Pool local resources (financial, human and physical) for the establishment and running of a community based health facility. c) Creation of HIV/AIDS awareness and, where resources permit, establish a functional Voluntary, Counselling and Testing Centre within the Dispensary. d) Establish a centre for HIV/AIDS home-based care and management.
