PEPFAR (The United States President’s Emergency Program for AIDS Response) grant was awarded for $54,000 for Covid-19 prevention and intervention. All staff members at Alyans Sante Borgne now have the first dose of the vaccine and Dr Thony is rolling out a three-tier vaccination program in Borgne. As an aside PEPFAR it is the largest global program for HIV/AIDS funded through USAID.

Board Member, who is a fellow at the International College of Dentistry (ICD), informed us of an opportunity to receive kits of PPE supplies for Borgne/ASB through ICD’s Global Visionary Fund (GVF) and Henry Schein Cares Foundation. These “kits” include face shields, gowns, coveralls and masks; each kit includes 15 warehouse pallets of supplies--several thousand of each item (e.g., 7,800 gowns, 9,600 face shields, etc.). Application for kits submitted.

RIT Sustainable Livelihoods Project is a $24,000 grant to HOPE to conduct a research project in partnership with RIT (~$10-$15k of this may cover existing operating budget in some way).

The project has started, and a coordinator hired to lead the on-the-ground work and that coordinator has begun both planning and creating a survey instrument for interview work. Data collection begins this Fall.

Pierre Fauchard Oral Health Foundation – proposed budget of $10,000. Grant submitted and response will be received this Fall. One objective is to educate high risk populations about the importance of oral health and hygiene. The high-risk group includes children, pregnant women, and those living with HIV/AIDS. Another objective is to promote oral health care and services offered at the ASB Dental Clinic.

NIH Research Training Grant – 1.2 million over 5 years. Grant application submitted and project goals are to increase the ability of Haitian practitioners to conduct applied, community-based oral health research, expand the ability of Haitian practitioners to use distance-based means for conducting practice and community centered research, and to expand global research and training collaborations around community oral health.
