6th graders after completing new national exams
Greetings,
We've just wrapped up another school year and wanted to share a quick update. This year brought some big shifts in the Kenyan education system, with the introduction of a new curriculum and establishment of junior secondary school, covering grades 7-9. As part of the change, Kenya is replacing national exams previously completed in 8th grade with exams taken at the end of 6th grade and 9th grade to assess students’ competency across a wide range of subjects. In the photo above, you can see a group of our 6th graders gathered after completing their exams earlier this month.
In line with these changes, we’re excited to announce that we’ll be expanding our school to include a 9th grade beginning next year. This will allow our 8th-grade graduates to continue learning and growing with us as they complete junior secondary school and prepare to head off to secondary school beginning in 10th grade. Our students will be back in January, and our teachers are already working hard to get everything ready.
As we look ahead, we’re also gearing up for our biggest fundraiser of the year on Giving Tuesday. Please keep an eye out for our messages about how you can help us sustain and grow this important work. Thank you, as always, for standing with us. We couldn’t do it without your support.
Wishing everyone a wonderful fall and Happy Thanksgiving!
