Manjari Special School Report II, Tamil Nadu India

By Manjari Special School for Mentally Retarded Child | Rural Area Development Trust, B.Dharmathupatti, bod

The Manjari Day Care Centre was started in the year 2005 at Uthamapalayam, 25 kms south of the main centre. This centre provides therapeutic support to children who are physically and mentally challenged. Manjari centre consists of 43 children. Physiotherapy and special education are regularly given to the children. Food, therapy and transportation are provided free of cost to the children and their parents. The centre caters to both male and female children.

The project area is a very remote, hilly bedded area. All the people mainly do agriculture oriented activity. Every civilian goes for daily wage work in nearby gardens or to Kerala (25 kms from the project site. Elderly people stay in their home and maintain domestic animals like cow, goats and hens. With the increase in the literacy rate, normal children go to the government schools every day for their education. Differently-abled children stay only in their homes. The food habits of these people include rice or grains on a regular basis, vegetables at times and meat once in four months. They utilize government benefits from the ration shop.
