Mangrove Monitoring

By Mariel Pinel | Partnerships Officer

Mangrove reforestation is a complex process and a very difficult challenge, especially with the current variations of climate change.

After planting, the seedlings may die for many reasons such as sedimentation, erosion, high tides, predators and high water temperatures. This is the reason why it is necessary after planting, to do monitoring in order to replace seedlings that fail to survive during the first three months. This is what we call "replanting".

Last month we made the second monitoring visit of 2015 in Conte and Colibri Beach in "Golfo Dulce", South Pacific of Costa Rica. We record, thanks to replanting, 174 alive seedlings which reach a height of 160 centimeters!!! In the picture you can see that seedlings are already as tall as Luis Carlos, our technical field. This makes us really happy and motivates us to continue working.

Are you also glad with this new?
