Last month was very important for one of our mangrove nurseries in "Golfo Dulce", South Pacific. We received the support from a group of twelve volunteers who came from San José (the capital) in order to plant 400 seedlings.
They arrived in our Center for Studies and Community Empowerment in "Península de Osa" and we offered them a workshop about mangroves and reforestation. They were really excited about learning the importance of our work in conservation and the felt ready and motivated for their field work of the day after (although we advice them that working in the mangroves is difficult and tired).
Next day, after having breakfast really early (6:00am), we drove to the beach where 3 boats were waiting for us. What we did not expect is that the sea was so choppy. It was a very bumpy ride and we lasted about 30 minutes longer than planned. Fortunately, none of the group was found to have nausea!!!
It was so nice to arrive safe and find a group of locals waiting for us to help them to take care of the mangrove. We had to be quick and efficeint to achieve the goal of planting 400 seedlings in the nursery, due to the delay time of the boat trip. We had to return before nightfall for the group of volunteers could return home and work in ther offices the next day.
The great thing was that we were able not only to plant 400 seedlings, but 100 more. In total we planted 500 seedlings! We were a really good team!!! I believe nature is very grateful and the sea rewarded us in our boat ride back... the rough sea was gone and our work was well done!
Thank you for making it possible for all this to happen.
