The Makindu hospital is currently full due to the current wave of COVID-19. Since we have been able to provide emergency food relief, to cover 1,800+ children and their guardians monthly, we have been able to keep families nourished through the pandemic which has resulted in 0 COVID-19 infections for the Makindu kids. This is an AMAZING accomplishment and we really couldn’t do it without you. COVID-19 isn’t over, and the unemployment rate is still at 30% in Kenya. The centre hasn't been open consistently so being able to gather and deliver food to the kids is a priority for us. Thank you for helping us keep the Makindu kids safe and healthy. Many of them, or their family members are HIV+ which means that COVID-19 is even more riskier for them. We will continue to deliver food as long as we have the resources. While we deliver the food, we take the time to check in with the guardians on any health or mental issues happening within their households along with education about sanitation and hygiene. The borders are closed and Tanzania is Kenya’s main source of maize flour. Maize is a main ingredient in our food baskets and it is so important to keep the kids healthy. Since it’s in such high demand and such a low resource, the price has inflated. We hope to continue to deliver food baskets during this time. Thank you for your ongoing support of keeping the kids healthy and safe in Makindu.
