Kougny is a department or commune of Nayala Province in western Burkina Faso located at 144 miles from Ouagadougou.

Community Building Group has installed in Kougny a drip and sprinkler irrigation system powered by solar energy DC pumping. The women of Kougny in Nayala are still enjoying the benefits of the irrigation system installed last year in their community garden. Since then, the women are working full time to grow vegetables. Here is the testimony of some members of the women cooperative group that we met this month in Kougny:

Djibo, a member of the Cooperative told our team that: "We, women of Kougny, will never stop expressing the joy that animates us with these new irrigation solar system using the rainwater catchment basin water. It makes cropping easy." Before we have to carry water manually and pour it into the field. The management of water wells water was difficult, now only one person can operate the irrigation system. Community Building Group personal trained us on how to use the system. The challenges we have now are to keep eyes on animals damages in the farm, and we also have to manually remove the weeds. Right now, the irrigation allows us to have at least three (3) productions a year, and if we plan earlier, we can even have four consecutive harvests with some crop like eggplant and lettuces. "

Fatoumata, an active member of the cooperative said: "We thank our donors who have allowed us to have a garden equipped. We believe that we are on the right path to improving our life condition. Our challenge is to put fence preventing animals coming to our garden. We are asking the Community Building Group and its partners to help us with a fence."

Community Building Group thanks everyone for their overwhelming support, stay tuned, more yet to come. Your donation can make dryland into the fruitful wetland.

Sincerely thank
