These last three months of the year have seen a flurry of activity by our dedicated team to ready our holiday gifts of Tibetan wisdom to present to the world. Our twelve language sections in Roman or and Cyrillic script are now completed and available online, and are beautifully gift-wrapped in our new format and style. Not only that, we now have the first of our nine non-Western script languages – traditional character Chinese – also migrated and “live” for the public. Over three-quarters of our articles are now available in the clear new structure. The simplified character Chinese section is next in line and is already in the works, while our translation teams are busy, as always, expanding our offerings in all our languages.
Websites often give the deceptive appearance that they arise out of nowhere, just there on our screens. But in fact, they arise dependently on the hard work of dozens of people, in our case, based all across the globe. Writing new material, preparing translations, and making articles content rich with graphics are not all that’s involved. Behind the scene lies the unseen hard work of our technical team. Our digital presence is not limited to just our Study Buddhism website. Our Facebook, YouTube and SoundCloud offerings continue to grow. On Facebook, for instance, we have seen explosive growth over the last quarter, and now have 17,000 followers. Over the last three months on Facebook, we have reached more than 1 million users, and our videos have been viewed more than half a million times. We recently uploaded on our YouTube channel 18 video clips from our interview with Mindrolling Khandro Rinpoche, one of the greatest female Lamas in the Tibetan Buddhist world. At the end of October, we sent Dr. Berzin to Dharamsala, India, where, together with the young Serkong Rinpoche, he interviewed His Holiness the Dalai Lama concerning His relationship with the previous Serkong Rinpoche, His Assistant Tutor and Master Debate Partner. While there, Dr. Berzin also filmed an interview with Nechung Kuten, the medium of the State Oracle of Tibet. Soon you’ll be able to learn what it’s like to go into trance and be possessed by an oracle!
We look forward to bringing you more gifts of the wisdom of Tibet, not just during the holiday season, but all year round. Your continuing support helps make this all possible. We thank you for your wonderful generosity.
