An Update from Sarah's House

By Sarah Moshofsky | Co-Director of Care

Ana* and Fluffy, our newest canine resident!

The girls continue to work hard and advance through their program at Sarah’s House.

English class has become a high priority for many of the girls. Visiting teams from America have given them opportunities to practice their second language in real conversations. They are improving rapidly and their confidence is growing!

School remains a priority at Sarah’s House, and the girls are studying very hard. We have incorporated new techniques in the classroom, and the teachers are working hard to adapt their lessons to the variety of learning styles. Girls and teachers are embracing the changes and each are learning their own strengths and building on them. We are seeing great progress as a result, even in those areas that have been challenging in the past. Their classes outside of the shelter currently include tennis, swimming, tutoring, and voice lessons.

National grade level exams will take place soon for two of the girls. Passing these exams is required in order to receive a High School Certificate, so they are studying hard in preparation. Please be praying for them as they work toward achieving this goal.

We have a new family member in the shelter…Fluffy!  Fluffy (named by the girls) is an adorable, high energy, 7-month-old Golden Retriever puppy. If you know puppies, you know how much work it takes to care for them. The girls are learning more and more each day how to nurture and care for him, but it is not easy, or natural, for a lot of them. Dogs are not common as pets in Indonesia, so this is new territory for most of the staff and girls. Dog training videos are providing much needed assistance to all. Fluffy is winning them over one by one, and for those who love him, he is a welcome comfort and joy each day.

Despite the challenges, we encourage the girls to embrace each new day as an opportunity to heal, to learn and to grow. We are so proud of each of them as they walk this journey together. Each girl is unique. Each girl is strong. Each girl has so much to give. Each girl is a fighter. Each girl is beautiful. Thank you for investing in her dreams!
