Report of development of Peoplewith Mental Illness

Dear Donors, Friends and Well-wishers of The Association of People with  Disability (APD).

We are glad   to submit to you the quarterly report of our project on Rehabilitation of People with Mental Illness

Thanks to Global Giving community for your generous support to mainstream the people with mental illness. Some of the major activities during the last three months are given below for your kind information. 

 Medical Intervention.

we have identified new 118 people with Mental Illness during the month of October 2014 and couselled for them.

The existing  339 PWMI  are going regularly to hospital for the treatment.

APD organised 3 camps for Mental Illness at government hospital in Bagewadi,Sindagi and Bhagepalli in which around 260 people participated and got awareness about Mental Illness.

PWMI with care givers meetings:

APD  conducted Care givers of Person with Mental illness meeting in which 136 PWMI and 8 care givers participated.

During this meeting we discussed about family and individual needs, federation advantages, Govt. 3% reservation fund and importance of group.

Community Awareness Program :- The Community Awareness camp was conducted in for local commuinity . Distributed brochures and pamphlets in various areas of Banagalore like  vinobhanagar-bus stop ,KG Halii, Chula colony, venkateshapura, Asamudhanagar, kusalnagar and muslim colony.  860 people received information with regard to mental health.

The health department celebrated the World Mental Health Day on October 10th . 32 PWMI along with caregivers and staff attended this event.

APD organized 10 awareness programs, in which 351 got information about the mental health. The various groups as such are women’s group, Parents, government school, APD SIS teachers training, MSW students, M.S.Ramaiah Nourishing students and HT trainees with regard to child mental health,symtoms,causes, types of mental illness and treatment services.

During this period team have oriented to Village Rehabilitation workers ( VRW) and MRWs, Anganwadhi teachers, ASHA workers, care givers to ensure PWMIs for Identification and treatments.

APD team from Chikkabellapur conducted a 3 day programme INCHARA at K.V.V campus in Chikkabellapur.The topic discussed were stress and stress management to deaf youths and parents in which 170 participated.

APD conducted orientation programme on 26th-29th December 2013 at Lotus boy’s school, Davanagere, in which around 120 members participated . They were given inputs on with regard to PWMIs identification & symptoms, causes.

APD  organized 4 programs for PWMI and care givers at Prerana centre at Bijapur and Basavana Bagewadi in which 93 members participated. We gave information about all types of mental illness and causes and also about rehabilitation and social security Schemes.

On 19th October at Panchagiri high school , APD conducted Mental health training program for  Village Rehabilitation Workers and Disabled People organisation   from Chikkaballapura .  Resource  Person Mr. Guru Raghavendra coverd topics about mental illness symptoms, causes, types, difference between MR & MI, prevention and Treatment. In this training 62 members participated.

*On 26th   October, 23rd November and 28th December 2013 , APD organised  3 treatment camps at Bagepalli Taluk hospital. In this camp 134 members had participated and they received treatment.

To celebrate  “WORLD DISABLE DAY”  , APD organized sports.522  disables and their parents attended  actively  and won the prizes.

Livelihood - 18 PWMI were put back into  their previous jobs like agriculture, horticulture, school attender, tailoring training and cooli works.

Social security scheme: 3members received disability ID card and another 3 will receive pension order copy from the government.

 Staff training- Staff were trained on   “Social security scheme” at Bijapur on November 28th 2013.
