Luz - time to shine bright!

By Juliet Lyon | Director, ParCo

There was a time when our Luz program needed more sunscreen to keep up with demand. But over the last months, we have had fewer visitors that we hoped for.

We know the need is great - there are plenty of low income families with albinism among them - but we suspect that 1. information about the importance of sunscreen has not reached the families who face this challenging condition and 2. awareness about sunscreen being available free of charge at ParCo through the Luz program may not have reached everywhere.

In the coming months, we are going to empoyee a strategy to build awareness and draw more demand. We will have a meeting with the local hospital so they know to make referals to us. We will be producing spots for the local radio station. And we will put together educational material to share through all the usual channels. Hopefully, with these efforts, we will increase the number of families benefiting from the Luz program.

Thank you for helping us tackle this unique social challenge in Vilankulo, Mozambique.

Pictured here is two year old Fabiola whose mother brought her to ParCo to pick up sunscreen to protect her delicate skin. :)
