3500 Women will be performed Sight Restoration Cataract Surgeries at LRBT Free hospital in Lar Multan, Pakistan: Over 1.7 million people in Pakistan are blind and 16.5 million visually impaired out of which 50% are women.Blindness not only turn these women into dependent individual but also hampers income generation of the family as its members need to devote more time for performing their daily chores.Her children are left unattended and their future becomes bleak.Support these poor blind women
For women who have turned blind or those who would eventually be blind if not treated on time with no access to Govt. eye care and unable to afford treatment in the private sector the choice is stark; either starve or get treatment. LRBT believes that no human being should be faced with such a choice and offers free surgeries at its 16 hospitals. This project will benefit 3500 women living in Multan and in its catchment areas who are in dire need of Cataract surgery in 2011-12
LRBT hospial in Lar- Multan was established in 1999 as a 50 bed facility. It serves eye patients from Multan, Muzzafargarh, Khanewal, Bhawalpur & D.G.Khan Districts. Each day on average over 240 outpatients are seen and over 40 major and minor surgeries performed free. Through the funds raised sight of 3500 women would be restored through Sight Restoration Cataract Surgeries turning them into productive members of their families and save them and their children from further suffering.
Performing 3500 women surgeries means benefiting approx. 25000 family members who depend on these women for running household and bringing up and educating the children. The project will help increase the income level of each household as the earning members would be able to devote more time to their work. These women would turn from being dependent into productive members of their families and community in turn allowing them to rise out of poverty as blindness ultimately leads to poverty.
