love.fútbol friends,
In the few months since we last reached out, we’ve made tremendous strides with our expansion to Brazil. We wanted to send you a quick update on our progress and say thank you again for your involvement!
We’ve completed the difficult registration process in Recife and assembled a strong network of supporters and core team members. We’ve put together board of directors with diverse backgrounds in business, law, journalism as well as professional soccer. We’re also training two representatives who will serve four states in the northeast of Brazil, in addition to our first project near Recife.
We quickly went to work identifying and assessing communities where children lack safe places to play soccer. We’ve narrowed down the selection process to two communities and one in particular stands out. The town of Maruim is home to more than one thousand soccer-crazed children. The children are separated from the only soccer field in the area by a swamp, which fills with sewage and trash from the surrounding houses and rises to chest-height at high tide. During low tide, children wade through the swamp to play on the field and rush back before the swamp crests. We’re working with community leaders to find a suitable site for a love.fútbol field and a reprieve from the indignity children currently face in their fight to play the game
In other news, love.fútbol co-founder and CEO is working with streetfootballworld and The Sport for Social Change Network to secure partnerships with other development organizations that can continue to serve our partner communities once the project is completed. We are also working with the World Cup Secretariat of the municipality of Recife to link our project communities to 2014 World Cup activities.
As you can see, the love.fútbol team is making rapid progress on the Recife project. But the truth is that we couldn’t have done it without your support. We’re thankful for your involvement and hope you continue to follow our work!
