Living Lab Paper Accepted for Journal Publication

By Dr. Joseph Anthony Narciso Z. Tiangco | Co-founder/Member of the Board of Directors

Shu-Te University has accepted for publication a concept paper titled “Enhancing USR at Shu-Te University Through a Proposed Living Lab Partnership: A Concept Paper and Hypothetical SROI Projection.” The paper, authored by Joseph Anthony Narciso Z. Tiangco, Yi-Wei Huang, Kai-Jye Lee, Hsin-Ting Teng, and An-Chieh Tien, will appear in the university journal in January 2027.

The paper proposes a Living Lab model to strengthen University Social Responsibility by connecting academic expertise with real community needs. The project highlights collaboration among Shu-Te University units, Taiwan Love and Hope International Charity, and partner organizations to create practical learning opportunities for students while supporting underserved children, families, and communities.

At the center of the proposal is the idea that students should not only complete service hours, but also develop meaningful skills through real-world problem solving. Possible activities include AI-powered language and technology mentorship, digital documentation for care programs, global content creation, and technology-supported training for caregivers.

Following the paper’s acceptance, the collaborators are now exploring next steps toward implementation. These include identifying pilot activities, clarifying partner roles, developing student training pathways, and creating tools for monitoring social impact. The team is also considering how the Living Lab can support grant applications, interdisciplinary teaching, and stronger links between the university and nonprofit partners.

The publication marks an important step in turning the Living Lab from a conceptual proposal into a practical platform for education, innovation, and community service.
