It's an exciting time at Tipitina's Foundation! The application deadline for our Instruments A Comin' program--the vehicle through which we distribute musical instruments to school music programs--has come and gone, and we had a lot of gifted music programs seeking our help. Now we must decide how to meet a large need with limited means.
This week we finished interviewing potential recipient music programs. We assessed their needs versus those of other school music programs in the area, taking into account our available funding and our inventory of professionally refurbished instruments. In the coming weeks we will select and announce a number of New Orleans area schools who will be the beneficiaries of this year's Instruments A Comin' awards. Included in that number will be 2-3 schools slated to receive our first batch of professionally refurbished, quality musical instruments. This is especially exciting because without the Louisiana Instrument Repair Initiative, we would not have been able to help these schools meet their needs.
In other news, Stafford--our repair technician--has been very busy working to restore a number of instruments recently reclaimed from a school that shut its doors over the summer. We are hoping that he can turn these instruments around in time to include them in this year's Instruments A Comin' New Orleans awards.
Thank you all for your continued, generous support!
