Greetings & Happy St. Patrick's Day! We at Tipitina's Foundation are very excited by the progress we have made since inaugurating our in-house instrument repair initiative. The project is getting underway slowly but surely. We have set aside space within our office building to begin accepting, processing, and ultimately restoring used instrument donations. Our dedicated technician--Stafford--has already started working on some of the instruments we had received prior to starting this campaign (see attached photos).
Start-up costs have included the purchase of new cases, mouthpieces, and various repair materials. Many times when an instrument is donated to us, the case is in less-than-perfect condition. To increase the longevity of the instruments, we put our refurbished ones into new cases. And owing to the high likelihood that a donated instrument will be missing a mouthpiece, we have stocked up on the most common ones. This allows us to provide eager music students a hygenic and functional introduction to their newly refurbished instruments.
We are also a few days away from launching a Fed Ex label generator on our website that would allow instrument donors free shipping. We cannot wait to get this off the ground to simplify the process of getting instruments here to Louisiana.
