Bienestar's youth initiative operates programs for children from infants to teens who live in Bienestar affordable apartment properties. These children are from farmworker and working poor families with an average income ranging between $10,000 and $19,000. Their families struggle mightily with just food, shelter and clothing. 98% of the families are Latino, with an average education level of 7th grade. Our youth programs are aimed at improving the futures for these second generation immigrants so that they stay in school, stay healthy, develop productive habits and have brighter futures than their parents.
Our youth programs include four Homework Clubs, Financial Fitness for Life, a Youth Individual Development Account program (matched savings program), AKA Science Clubs, Yoga Classes, Soccer Club, Basketball Club, Summer Lunch & Fun, Summer Reading Safari, Explorador Nature Camp, Zoo to You, Childrens' Nutrition Classes, Kids' Computer Club, Teens' Build Your Own Computer Workshop, PlayWrite for Teens, Adelante Chicas, Holiday parties, special programs and presentations.
These programs are offered onsite at our affordable housing properties in Aloha, Cornelius, Hillsboro and Forest Grove in Washington County, Oregon. More information is available on our website at www.bienestar-or.org.
